To mark ANZAC Day 2026, the Northern Sydney Regional Rose Society donated two roses, “In Perpetuity”, gifted by the Office of Australian War Graves (OAWG), to be planted in Peace Park, Kiama. The rose commemorates the 50th anniversary of the OAWG and recognises its important work in honouring more than 334,000 Australian servicemen and women.

The mission of the OAWG is to ensure that those who served and died in wars and post-war service are commemorated with dignity through the perpetual care of war cemeteries, graves, and places of individual remembrance across Australia and the region. The rose name, “In Perpetuity”, reflects both the enduring nature of remembrance and the ongoing work of the OAWG in maintaining these sites of honour for generations to come.

On Friday, 24 April 2026, in keeping with the solemn significance of the occasion, the roses were planted by the Mayor of Kiama Municipal Council, Cameron McDonald, and the President of the Kiama-Jamberoo RSL, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Gary McKay. The ceremony was attended by members of Friends of Peace Park Kiama, the Illawarra Rose Society, and ex-service personnel.

“They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. We will remember them.”

Lest we forget.

Please note that at the time of planting, the rose R “In Perpetuity” had not yet been formally registered.
